The Unzen Volcano Disaster Memorial Hall was built to convey the lessons of the 1990 Unzen-Fugen-dake eruption disaster to future generations and contribute to improved disaster prevention awareness. The hall displays records of the eruption disaster, photographs and videos depicting the situation at the time, and damaged houses. In particular, the diorama depicting the threat of pyroclastic flows and video testimonies from residents at the time allow visitors to vividly experience the horror of the disaster. Scientific explanations of volcanoes and information on disaster prevention are also exhibited, allowing visitors to learn about the importance of disaster preparedness. The hall also features a children's play area and a cafe, making it a family-friendly facility. The Unzen Volcano Disaster Memorial Hall is not merely a place to look back on past disasters, but a valuable facility for learning lessons for the future.
