Overview

Amagoi-no-taki is a stunning double waterfall located in Kamiyama-chō, Tokushima Prefecture, consisting of Ototaki (male waterfall) and Mesotaki (female waterfall). Ototaki boasts a 27-meter drop, while Mesotaki plunges 45 meters in three magnificent tiers. The waterfall's name comes from the local farmers who, during times of drought, would perform rain prayers here, clad in straw raincoats and hats, beating drums and bells. Selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls, Amagoi-no-taki captivates visitors with its majestic beauty. Surrounding the falls is lush nature, with well-maintained walking paths perfect for a refreshing hike. The autumn foliage is especially spectacular, painting the landscape in vibrant reds and yellows. Nearby, you'll discover other captivating waterfalls and scenic spots, including Uguisu-taki, Fudō-taki, Jigoku-buchi, Momiji-taki, and Kan'on-taki, offering a full day of exploration. Take the Tokushima Bus Kamiyama Line or Sanagawa Line from JR Tokushima Station and get off at the Yorii-chū bus stop. The journey takes about 1 hour. It's then a 60-minute walk from the bus stop. If driving, take National Route 438, pass the Kamiyama Town Hall, and continue south along the Takanegawa River for 2.3 kilometers from the Yorii-chū bus stop. Free parking is available. While a well-maintained walking path is available, please note that it includes some stairs and inclines, so wearing comfortable shoes is recommended.
