Overview

Tenguyama, located in western Tokushima Prefecture, stands at 1,955 meters, making it the second highest mountain in western Japan. Selected as one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains, it has long been a site of mountain worship. For access to Tenguyama, we recommend using the "Tenguyama Kanko Tozan Lift," which runs from Minonogoe Station at the foot of the mountain to Nishijima Station near the summit. The lift takes you to an elevation of 1,750m in about 15 minutes, making it easy for those who are not physically confident or families with children to enjoy the climb. From Nishijima Station to the summit, there are four well-maintained hiking trails, allowing you to choose a course that suits your fitness level. Beginner-friendly trails take about an hour to reach the summit. From the summit, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view, including Ishizuchiyama, the westernmost peak of the Shikoku Mountains, and even the Seto Inland Sea and Tosa Bay on a clear day. You can admire distant islands and mountains, enjoying the magnificent natural scenery. Tenguyama is also known for its beautiful seasonal changes. In spring, the mountains are covered in fresh greenery after the snow melts, making the trails easy to walk. The "Oyamabiraki" festival marks the start of the climbing season in late April. Summer brings a profusion of alpine flowers, adding color to the trails. Discovering rare species like Kirengeshoma and Shikoku-fuuro is part of the fun. Autumn paints the mountains in vibrant hues of red, yellow, and orange, creating a breathtaking landscape from the foot to the summit. In winter, rime ice forms near the summit, offering a fantastic, otherworldly view. On clear days, you can see a sea of clouds stretching out below. Near the summit is the "Tenguyama Summit Hut," a mountain hut offering accommodations. While it maintains a mountain hut style, it has modern amenities including flush toilets, ensuring comfortable stay. Enjoy the starlit sky at night and stunning sunrises and cloud seas in the morning. Tenguyama is a captivating climbing spot where you can immerse yourself in nature and enjoy breathtaking scenery. The lift makes it accessible even for beginners. Why not experience a memorable climb, taking in the beautiful scenery of each season?
