Overview

Located in Tsurugi-cho, Tokushima Prefecture, Tsuchi-gama is a 7-meter-high waterfall on the Sagano River. Designated as a Tokushima Prefectural Natural Monument in 1956, it's a true masterpiece of nature. This area was once known as the site of the earliest ironware discovery in Tokushima Prefecture. Tsuchi-gama features pot-shaped potholes in the riverbed of the narrow Sagano River gorge. The water flows into four of these basins, creating a unique and stunning valley scene. It's named "Tsuchi-gama" (earthen pot) because the waterfall basin resembles a pot. The water's long-term erosion of the bedrock is believed to have formed this beautiful landscape. The fine mist rising like white smoke, contrasting with the fresh greenery of spring or the vibrant autumn foliage, captivates all who visit. A well-maintained walking path surrounds Tsuchi-gama, allowing for a leisurely stroll. Nearby, you'll also find a waterfall called Naki-taki, making it a worthwhile double feature. Tsuchi-gama offers a powerful experience of nature's strength. Witness the majestic scenery and the fantastical view created by the water spray for yourself!
