Overview

The former Kurayoshi Line was a local railway line that opened in 1912 (Meiji 45) as the "Kurayoshi Light Railway" and was closed in 1985 (Showa 60). It once connected Kurayoshi Station to Yamamori Station in Sekigane, a distance of approximately 20 kilometers. After its closure, the railway tracks were left intact, and today it is a beloved nature walk. The section from the former Taikyuji Station to the entrance of the Yamamori Tunnel in Sekigane is particularly enchanting, with the tracks running through a dense bamboo forest, creating a magical atmosphere. Walking through the bamboo grove dappled with sunlight allows you to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and relax. Many historical remains, such as rails, platform remnants, and tunnels, evoke the lively atmosphere of the past. In addition to walking along the abandoned track, we recommend visiting the Kurayoshi Line Abandoned Track Tourist Information Center to see photographs and documents from the past and purchase original souvenirs. The former Kurayoshi Line abandoned track is a captivating spot where you can experience both nature and history. Come and experience the nostalgic atmosphere of this former railway.
