Take a stroll through the charming streets lined with white-walled storehouses.
The Kurayoshi Shirakabe-dozo is an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings located in Kurayoshi City, Tottori Prefecture. This district developed as the castle town of Uchifu Castle, built during the Muromachi period. From the Edo period onwards, it thrived as a commercial center, resulting in the rows of white-walled storehouses and traditional townhouses we see today. Many of these storehouses, once used for sake and soy sauce brewing, have been renovated into cafes, galleries, and souvenir shops. The charm of the Shirakabe-dozo lies in its atmospheric streetscape. The sight of white-walled storehouses and traditional townhouses lining the streets creates a feeling of stepping back in time. The area also offers many historical sites to explore. For example, the former Uchifu Station is now open to the public as the Kurayoshi Line Railway Memorial Museum, showcasing the history and vehicles of the Kurayoshi Line. The Kurayoshi Shirakabe-dozo is a captivating tourist destination where you can experience history and culture. Be sure to visit!
