Japan's first underwater park! Experience the beautiful underwater world, including tropical fish and coral reefs!
Kushimoto Underwater Park, located in Kushimoto-cho, Wakayama Prefecture, was designated as Japan's first underwater park in 1970. Influenced by the Kuroshio Current, it boasts a rich ecosystem teeming with diverse tropical and subtropical fish, coral reefs, and other marine life—so rich, it's sometimes called the "Galapagos of Japan." The park offers various facilities for directly and indirectly observing the underwater world, including an aquarium, an underwater observation tower, and an underwater sightseeing boat. The aquarium allows you to get up close to fish and coral from the Kushimoto area. Its underwater tunnel-type large tank, measuring 24.0 meters long and 2.5 meters wide, features a transparent acrylic tube that extends to your feet; it's one of the largest tanks in Japan. The underwater observation tower stands 140 meters offshore in Kushimoto-cho, with a total height of 14 meters and a water depth of 6.3 meters. Its double helix staircase structure, like a spiral shell, has separate entry and exit stairs. You can view tropical and subtropical fish and coral swimming in the deep blue sea through the glass. The fish are regularly fed, ensuring you'll almost always see them. The underwater sightseeing boat, "Stella Maris," is a semi-submersible vessel. From its large underwater observation room windows, you can enjoy views of tropical fish, table coral, and other marine scenery. Kushimoto Underwater Park is a fascinating tourist spot where you can not only fully enjoy the underwater world but also connect with nature. The surrounding area also features many historical buildings and cultural facilities, such as the Shionomisaki Lighthouse, Kashinozaki Lighthouse, the Turkey Memorial Museum, and the Kushimoto Okyo Ruseki Museum. Kushimoto Underwater Park offers a memorable journey, allowing you to experience both nature and culture.
