A rare opportunity to see Nissan's car manufacturing process up close!
Overview
The Nissan Motor Manufacturing Oppma Plant, located in Natushima-cho, Yokosuka-shi, Kanagawa-ken, is one of Nissan's main production plants.
Beginning operations in 1961, it was Japan's first full-scale automobile production plant. It pioneered the industry's adoption of the mixed-model assembly line (known as NIMS – Nissan Integrated Manufacturing System), producing multiple vehicle models simultaneously on the same line.
Even today, it continues to incorporate cutting-edge technologies, such as modular production, making it a world-leading automobile manufacturing facility. The plant boasts a dedicated wharf capable of handling 80,000 vehicles per month, a comprehensive research institute, and a test course.
During the tour, you can see the car assembly line up close. Investigate the secrets of Nissan's car manufacturing right next to the dynamic production line!
The guest hall features exhibits showcasing Nissan's history and technologies in car manufacturing. Take your time investigating the secrets behind Nissan's car manufacturing!
The vast grounds include research and development facilities, testing departments, a test drive course, and a dedicated wharf. A 15-minute bus tour will let you observe the shipping process, something unique to the Oppma plant.
Plant tours (both for school groups and the general public) can be booked starting three months in advance of the desired date, and are available only on weekdays (Monday – Friday, excluding holidays like Golden Week). You can choose between a tour of the factory only or a tour that also includes visiting the lobby and watching a video presentation. Reservations are required, but the tour is free of charge.
The Nissan Motor Manufacturing Oppma Plant is a valuable experience for car enthusiasts and anyone interested in manufacturing.
