An island where nature and history harmonize, floating on the Shonan sea. Enjoy beautiful scenery, power spots, and fresh seafood.
Enoshima Island is an island off the coast of Shonan, located in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Enoshima Shrine, with a history dating back to the Kamakura period, attracts many worshippers seeking blessings for matchmaking, safe childbirth, and maritime safety. The island is also home to many photogenic spots, such as Benten Bridge and Iwaya Cave. Benten Bridge is a vermillion bridge spanning the approach to Enoshima Shrine, connecting Enoshima to the mainland. Iwaya Cave is a sea cave with many stalactites and unusual rock formations, creating a mystical atmosphere. Enoshima also boasts several observation decks offering panoramic views of the Shonan Sea. The Sea Candle observation deck at the summit is a particularly popular spot offering 360-degree panoramic views. Enoshima has many restaurants serving fresh seafood. Shirasu-don (whitebait rice bowl) and Ajin no Tataki (seared horse mackerel) are especially recommended. Enoshima is easily enjoyed as a day trip, making it a great addition to a trip to Kamakura or Yokohama.
