Overview

Miyagase Dam is a gravity concrete dam, the largest in the metropolitan area, built on the Nakatsugawa River, a tributary of the Sagami River flowing through central Kanagawa Prefecture. Completed in 2001, its imposing structure, with a height of 156m and a crest length of 400m, commands an overwhelming presence. The artificial lake created by the dam, Lake Miyagase, is an essential water source for Kanagawa Prefecture. Miyagase Dam is not just a water source; it's also a captivating tourist attraction. From the dam site, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the majestic Lake Miyagase and the surrounding mountains. On a clear day, you can even see Mount Fuji in the distance. Downstream, Kanagawa Prefectural Aikawa Park offers expansive grounds with walking paths, lawns, playgrounds, and other amenities perfect for picnics and leisurely strolls. Furthermore, from April to November, sightseeing water releases take place every Wednesday, the second and fourth Fridays, and the second Sunday. You can observe the release from a plaza downstream. The massive volume of water released with a resounding roar is a breathtaking spectacle, creating an unforgettable experience. Access to Miyagase Dam is convenient. It's about a 40-minute bus ride from Hon-Atsugi Station on the Odakyu Odawara Line, or a 40-minute bus ride from Hashimoto Station on the JR Yokohama Line, Sagami Line, or Keio Sagamihara Line, making it easily accessible from the metropolitan area. Miyagase Dam is a charming tourist spot where nature, culture, and history blend seamlessly. The majestic dam, the beautiful lakeside scenery, and the time spent amidst abundant nature are sure to create lasting memories. Why not pay a visit?
