Overview

Tsuruoka Park, located in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, is a park built on the site of the former Tsurugaoka Castle, the residence of the Shonai domain lords. Within the park, you'll find historical remnants such as the castle moat, stone walls, and centuries-old cedar trees. The park is also home to several historical sites, including Shonai Shrine, Oshiro Inari Shrine, Tsuruoka Gokoku Shrine, and the Fujisawa Shuhei Memorial Museum. In spring, approximately 730 cherry trees burst into bloom, culminating in a cherry blossom festival. During the cherry blossom season, nighttime illuminations create a magical atmosphere unlike the daytime view. Autumn brings breathtaking autumn foliage. Well-maintained walking paths allow for leisurely strolls, while children's play areas and open spaces make it a perfect family destination. Tsuruoka Park offers a blend of history, nature, culture, and events—a truly captivating experience. Be sure to visit!
