Yagiyama Benyland is an amusement park located in Taihaku Ward, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture. Locals affectionately call it "Benny Land." Situated on Yagiyama Hill in the Aobayama mountain range, west of downtown Sendai, it's located across the street from Sendai City Yagiyama Zoo. It faces Mount Aobayama (home to Sendai Castle) across the Ryū no Kuchi Valley (a tributary of the Hirose River).
It opened on April 14, 1968, as the first comprehensive amusement park in the Tohoku region. Initially, it featured 15 attractions including a roller coaster, go-karts, teacups, a swing carousel, and a space rocket. While the roller coaster, go-karts, and teacups remain (after relocation or renovation), some attractions like the swing carousel and space rocket have been discontinued.
The park has continued to expand its attractions, adding a Ferris wheel and, notably, a double-loop corkscrew roller coaster in January 1987, marking a significant step in introducing larger and foreign-made rides. Today, nearly 30 attractions delight visitors.
For many Sendai residents, Yagiyama Benyland holds cherished childhood memories. With classic attractions like the "Yagiyama Cyclone" roller coaster and the Ferris wheel offering panoramic city views, along with plenty of kid-friendly rides, it's a perfect destination for the whole family.
Celebrating its 55th anniversary this year, it's the Tohoku region's first comprehensive amusement park, a place where nostalgia and innovation blend seamlessly. From thrilling rides to gentle attractions perfect for young children, there's something for everyone. Create unforgettable memories!
The park also offers various food shops and rest areas for a convenient and enjoyable day out. Come and spend a fun-filled day at Yagiyama Benyland!
