Nanshousou: A captivating blend of a historic Meiji-era building and a stunning garden that changes beautifully with the seasons.
Nanshousou is a modern Japanese-style building constructed around 1885 (Meiji 18) as a private residence for Segava Yorisawa Yasogoro, the operator of the Arakawa Mine. Later, in 1907 (Meiji 40), it was acquired by Mataro Ohya, who became the fifth mayor of Morioka, and used it as a villa. Beyond its historical significance, Nanshousou boasts a captivating garden. Featuring a pond, rock formations, and diverse trees, the garden offers breathtaking views throughout the year. Inside the building, exhibitions offer a glimpse into the lifestyles of that era, and events such as tea ceremonies are also held. Visiting Nanshousou allows you to imagine the streetscape of Morioka during the Meiji period. It's the perfect place for those seeking a peaceful and serene experience.
