Overview
The Ichinokura Residence is a historic garden and building constructed in the late Meiji period by Hiroyuki Abe, a politician from Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture.
Hiroyuki Abe was a prominent politician during the Meiji era, hailing from the Morioka clan. He was known not only for his political career but also as a cultured individual with an extensive collection of art.
The Ichinokura Residence was Abe's home in his later years, showcasing his passion for garden design.
The garden features a pond, bridges, stone lanterns, and other elements that create a stunning landscape throughout the four seasons. Cherry blossoms abound in spring, lush greenery in summer, vibrant autumn foliage, and a serene snowscape in winter.
In particular, the summer months bring the peak bloom of the Chusonji lotus flowers, their pink blossoms adorning the pond's surface. These lotus plants are said to have originated at Chusonji Temple during the Heian period and were later transplanted to the Ichinokura Residence's pond.
Autumn reveals a breathtaking display of crimson and gold foliage, drawing numerous visitors to witness this spectacle.
The Ichinokura Residence is a precious place where you can experience the history and nature of Morioka City. Take a stroll through the garden and reflect upon the Meiji era culture and the life of Hiroyuki Abe.
