A park with an observation deck offering breathtaking views of Morioka's cityscape and majestic mountains.
Iwayama Park is a scenic park nestled on a gently sloping hill at an elevation of 340.5 meters, providing stunning views of Morioka city. Established in 1970 (Showa 45), it's a beloved local spot offering scenic overlooks and recreational opportunities amidst lush greenery. The park features an observation deck and rest house with panoramic views of Morioka and its surrounding mountains, as well as the unique Kajima Seiichi Memorial Observation Deck, shaped like a saucer that has landed on the ground. From this deck, you can see not only the city but also the Iwate Mountain range and the Ou Mountains (including Hachimantai), and the Kitakami Mountain range (including Himekamiyama and Hayachineyama). The nighttime view is particularly spectacular. Within the park, you'll find the "Takuboku Uta no Michi" (Takuboku's Poem Path), a roughly 100-meter-long walking trail through a bright forest of birch and oak trees. Ten stone monuments bearing poems by the famous poet Ishikawa Takuboku line the path, offering a glimpse into his life and sentiments. Furthermore, Takuboku's Homeland Longing Hill features a bronze statue of Takuboku erected in 1982 (Showa 57) to commemorate the 70th anniversary of his death. His contemplative pose, facing the mountains of his homeland, evokes a sense of melancholy and captivates many visitors. Iwayama Park offers a blend of nature and culture. Enjoy breathtaking views from the observation decks, stroll along the walking trails, and explore the poems of Ishikawa Takuboku – there's something for everyone. Be sure to visit when you're in Morioka!
