A spring spectacle! Approximately 10,000 cherry blossoms in full bloom!
Kitakami Tenshochi is a city park in Kitakami City, Iwate Prefecture. Spreading across approximately 29,300 square meters along the Kitakami River, it boasts approximately 10,000 cherry trees and 100,000 azalea bushes in vibrant bloom. Planted as part of a cherry tree planting project in 1920 (Taisho 9), these trees now form a magnificent cherry blossom avenue, reaching their peak bloom from late April to early May. Enjoy a stroll through the cherry blossom tunnel, or have a relaxing hanami (cherry blossom viewing) experience while enjoying the view of the Kitakami River. At night, the park is illuminated, creating a magical atmosphere quite different from the daytime view. Beyond the cherry blossoms, spring brings a riot of colors from azaleas and other flowers. The park also houses the Kitakami City Museum and the Sato Hachiro Memorial Hall, offering opportunities to explore local history and culture. Kitakami Tenshochi is a captivating tourist spot where nature and culture harmoniously coexist.
