A mystical lava tree mold born from the 937 eruption.
The Yoshida Lava Tree Mold is a lava tree mold located in Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture. It is said to have been formed by the eruption of Mount Fuji in 937 (Jōhei 7), and is designated as a National Natural Monument. It is also included as a component of the World Cultural Heritage site "Mount Fuji – an object of faith and source of artistic inspiration," making its historical value extremely high. The Yoshida Lava Tree Mold is a cave created when lava from the eruption enveloped a tree of that time, and after the tree burned away, the lava cooled and solidified. Inside, you can see precious natural formations, such as the tree's rings and stalactites formed as the lava cooled and solidified. While generally closed to the public, the interior is open to the public annually on April 29th during the "Yoshida Utai-matsuri" festival. This festival allows visitors to enter the Yoshida Lava Tree Mold. Traditional performing arts such as kagura (sacred music and dance) and shishimai (lion dance) are also performed, creating a lively atmosphere where you can feel the ancient faith and the power of nature. The Yoshida Lava Tree Mold is a valuable place where you can experience the magnificent nature and history of Mount Fuji. Be sure to visit once.
