One of the magnificent "Norikura Three Waterfalls" located at the foot of Mount Norikura. The east-facing waterfall is sometimes graced with a rainbow in the morning sun.
Zenngoro Falls is a powerful waterfall, 21.5 meters high and 8 meters wide, situated in the upper Norikura Kogen area at the foot of Mount Norikura in Azumi, Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture. Its name originates from a legendary fisherman, "Zenngoro," who is said to have been dragged into the pool at the base of the falls by a giant *iwa*na (a type of trout). Flowing eastward, the falls are often illuminated by the morning sun, sometimes creating a stunning rainbow, making the early morning a particularly magical time to visit. A well-maintained path leads from the prefectural road to a viewing platform, allowing easy access to the magnificent waterfall for everyone. From the viewing platform, a trail continues downstream, offering opportunities for a refreshing forest bath and immersion in the surrounding nature. With beautiful fresh greenery in spring, a cool breeze in summer, vibrant autumn foliage, and a spectacular ice waterfall in winter, Zenngoro Falls offers breathtaking scenery throughout the year, truly a place to experience the power of nature. The area also boasts numerous other attractions, such as Mount Norikura and Norikura Kogen, making it an ideal destination for a multi-faceted trip.
