Amaharashi Coast is a beautiful coastal area in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, facing Toyama Bay. Its name originates from a legend about Minamoto no Yoshitsune, who is said to have waited for a sudden rain shower to clear up during his escape to the Ou region.
On a clear day, you can see the magnificent 3,000-meter-class Tateyama mountain range across Toyama Bay, a sight that captivates many visitors.
The coastline features beautiful white sand and pine trees, earning its place among Japan's 100 best beaches.
Amaharashi Coast is also a historic site mentioned in the Manyoshu, Japan's oldest anthology of poetry. Otomo no Yakamochi, a prominent Manyoshu poet, deeply loved the scenery of Amaharashi and composed many poems about it.
Amaharashi Coast offers captivating views throughout the year. Spring brings a riot of cherry blossoms, while summer sees it bustling as a popular beach. Autumn showcases beautiful autumn foliage, and in winter, the unique sea fog (ke-arashi) of the Sea of Japan creates a mystical atmosphere.
A roadside station, "Amaharashi," offers a fantastic viewpoint overlooking Toyama Bay and the Tateyama mountain range. With restaurants and souvenir shops, it's the perfect place for a break.
Amaharashi Coast is a highly recommended tourist spot where you can experience nature, history, and romance. We encourage you to visit!
