Takaoka Kojo Park, located in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, is a park built on the site of Takaoka Castle, constructed by Maeda Toshinaga, the second lord of the Kaga Domain. Construction began in 1609 (Keicho 14), and Toshinaga entered the castle the following year on September 13th. However, it was abandoned in 1615 (Genwa 1) due to the "one-castle-per-domain" policy. The castle ruins were later transferred to private ownership, and the park opened in 1875 (Meiji 8). Takaoka Kojo Park is designated as one of Japan's Top 100 Castles and is a registered national historical site. The park retains vestiges of the former castle, including moats, stone walls, and expansive lawns, providing a relaxing space for local residents. In spring, approximately 1800 cherry trees are in full bloom, making it a designated Top 100 Cherry Blossom Viewing Spot in Japan, attracting numerous visitors for hanami (cherry blossom viewing). Beautiful scenery can be enjoyed throughout the year, beyond just cherry blossom season. The park also houses various facilities, including the Shakusui Shrine, Takaoka Kojo Park Zoo, Takaoka Civic Hall, and Takaoka City Museum, offering a full day of activities. Takaoka Kojo Park, where you can experience history and enjoy the beauty of nature, is a must-visit tourist spot when visiting Toyama Prefecture. 【Highlights of Takaoka Kojo Park】 * A historic castle ruin designated as one of Japan's Top 100 Castles * A famous cherry blossom viewing spot with approximately 1800 cherry trees in full bloom in spring * Extensive grounds preserving castle remnants such as moats and stone walls * Lush lawns serving as a relaxing space for the community * Various facilities including the Shakusui Shrine, Takaoka Kojo Park Zoo, and Takaoka City Museum
