Shonai Ryokuchi Park is located in Nishi-ku, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, and utilizes the Odaij Yusuichi (flood control area) of the Shonai River.
In 1940 (Showa 15), it was designated as an air-raid shelter green space in the city plan, but due to land reform, the ownership was lost and it reverted to farmland.
Later, in 1955 (Showa 30), Yamada Village was incorporated into Nagoya City, and in 1958 (Showa 33), it was again designated as "Shonai Green Space No. 3".
Focusing on the Odaij Yusuichi area, privately owned land was purchased, and the park gradually began to be developed.
In April 1986 (Showa 61), it opened under the theme of "Water, Green, and Sun".
The park includes a rose garden, a cycling course, a boating pond, tennis courts, an athletics field, and the "Shonai Ryokuchi Green Plaza".
The "Shonai Ryokuchi Green Plaza" opened in 1986, ahead of the rest of the country, as a model for the national "Green Fitness Park Project", serving as a base for promoting health and exercise through greenery.
Various exhibitions, workshops, and events are held regularly.
Shonai Ryokuchi Park is a comprehensive park where you can not only enjoy nature but also engage in sports.
The vast grounds include a lawn, a large fountain, a children's playground, a picnic area, a cycling center, and a boating pond, offering a full day of fun.
Well-maintained walking paths allow for leisurely strolls through nature.
With plenty of children's play equipment and open spaces, it's a great park for families.
Shonai Ryokuchi Park is a beloved recreation area for Nagoya citizens.
