A lush green oasis in the heart of the city! Experience nature unlike anything you'll find in an urban setting, enjoying the beauty of a Satoyama landscape.
Inataka Ryokuchi is a comprehensive park spanning 66.2 hectares in Meitō-ku, Nagoya City. This area was originally part of Inaka-mura, a village in Aichi County characterized by rolling hills, farmland, and broadleaf forests. As Nagoya City planned for expansion through mergers with surrounding municipalities, urban planning included the development of parks, anticipating this growth. Inaka-mura merged with Nagoya City in 1955 (Shōwa 30), and Inataka Ryokuchi was subsequently developed as an urban green space on February 15, 1958 (Shōwa 33). Further development and adjustments to the park's boundaries occurred on January 27 and August 28, 1965 (Shōwa 40), and January 17, 1977 (Shōwa 52). Between 2000 and 2001 (Heisei 12-13), the park underwent significant forest restoration and the revival of its terraced rice paddies. The greenery within is surprisingly dense, with trees and bamboo creating a shaded atmosphere even during the daytime. When exploring the forest, be mindful of potential encounters with wasps (including Vespa and Polistes species) and vipers (mamushi). In 2006, Inataka Ryokuchi received the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's Tezukuri Kyōdo-shō Award (Community Activities Category) for its "Urban Satoyama Environment Regeneration and Citizen Activities." Inataka Ryokuchi is the perfect spot to escape the urban hustle and reconnect with nature. Enjoy various activities such as walking, jogging, or cycling. The park also boasts sports facilities like tennis courts and an archery range. Be sure to visit!
