Miho-Seki Lighthouse, located in Miho-Seki Town, Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, is the oldest stone lighthouse in the San'in region. Built in 1898 (Meiji 31), it was constructed under the guidance of a French engineer by local stonemasons.
Standing 14 meters tall on a cliff 73 meters above sea level, the lighthouse is a stately stone structure that retains the charm of the Meiji era. It's designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.
Its historical significance has earned it a place in the '100 Lighthouses of Historical Significance' and '50 Best Lighthouses of Japan', making it one of Japan's most captivating lighthouses.
From the lighthouse, you can enjoy panoramic views of the vast Sea of Japan. On a clear day, you can even see the Oki Islands and Mount Daisen.
The surrounding area features well-maintained walking paths and observation decks, providing a relaxing spot to take in the scenery. The former lighthouse keeper's house next to the lighthouse has been renovated into a restaurant, Miho-Seki Lighthouse Buffet.
Miho-Seki Lighthouse is a recommended sightseeing spot where you can experience both history and nature.
