The Japan Ukiyo-e Museum, located in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, is a museum specializing in Ukiyo-e. It houses a collection of approximately 100,000 Ukiyo-e prints, considered among the largest and finest in Japan. You can admire a wide range of Ukiyo-e, including masterpieces by renowned artists of the Edo period such as Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige, as well as bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women), yakusha-e (actor pictures), and landscapes. The museum building, designed by architect Kazuo Shinohara, features a modern design. Its stylish exterior harmonizes with the surrounding landscape while maintaining a strong presence. The interior offers a bright and open space for leisurely viewing. The permanent exhibition showcases precious Ukiyo-e from the museum's collection.
