Murakami Castle Ruins

Overview

Murakami Castle is said to have been built by Honjo Tokinaga, one of the Echigo Yagokushū (local lords). During the Sengoku period, it was known as Honjo Castle. Later, the castle's ownership changed hands to the Murakami, Hori, and Matsudaira clans, evolving into a near-modern castle. It was abandoned in the Meiji period, but remnants such as stone walls and earthworks remain, offering a glimpse into its past. From the summit, you can enjoy panoramic views of Murakami City and the Sea of Japan, imagining the castle's former grandeur.
