Located in Iwaya at the northern tip of Awaji Island, this shrine is dedicated to 'Ebisu-san,' the god of good fortune in business. There's even a theory that the Nishinomiya Ebisu Shrine is actually a branch of this Iwaku Shrine, making it a popular power spot.

Overview

Iwaku Shrine sits majestically at the foot of the cliffs of the old Iwaya Castle ruins, opposite Iwaya Port at the northern tip of Awaji Island. It enshrines Izanagi, Izanami, and their child Hiruko (also known as Koto-shiro-nushi-no-mikoto). Hiruko is affectionately known as 'Ebisu-san,' the god of commerce, and some believe that the famous Nishinomiya Ebisu Shrine is actually a branch of this ancient shrine, highlighting its long history of devotion. The shrine grounds exude a tranquil and unique atmosphere, making it a popular power spot. Visitors come to pray for business prosperity, family safety, and protection from misfortune. The Iwaya Castle ruins and the surrounding natural beauty add to the appeal, making it a perfect destination for those seeking a blend of history and nature. The Iwaya Castle ruins, built during the Muromachi period by the Akamatsu clan who ruled Awaji Island, still retain parts of their stone walls. The area also boasts stunning natural landscapes, including Iwaya Coast (part of Awaji National Park), caves, and unique rock formations. Iwaku Shrine is a must-see destination on Awaji Island, offering a powerful combination of history, nature, and spiritual energy.
