A massive stone structure as its sacred object! A mystical shrine counted among Japan's "Three Great Mysteries".
Ishii Shrine, located in Takasago City, Hyogo Prefecture, enshrines a massive stone structure known as the Stone Treasure Hall (Ishi no Hoden) as its principal deity. This Stone Treasure Hall is a designated National Historic Site and is considered one of Japan's "Three Great Mysteries" (Nihon San-ki), along with Shiogama in Shiogama Shrine (Miyagi Prefecture) and the Tenkyakuho spear in the grounds of Kirishima Higashi Shrine (Miyazaki Prefecture). The Stone Treasure Hall is a colossal stone structure measuring 6.4 meters wide, 5.7 meters high, and 7.2 meters deep. Because it seems to float on the water, it's also called "Floating Stone" (Ukishi). While its origins, purpose, and construction methods remain unknown, its mystical presence captivates many. Ishii Shrine is also known as a power spot that has been attracting believers for centuries. Why not visit and cleanse your mind and body while feeling the power emanating from the Stone Treasure Hall? The history of Ishii Shrine stretches back to ancient times. According to shrine tradition, during the reign of Emperor Sujin, when a plague swept the country, two deities enshrined in the Stone Treasure Hall appeared in the Emperor's dream, proclaiming that "If you enshrine us, the country will prosper." Following this, Ishii Shrine was founded at its current location. The Stone Treasure Hall is also mentioned in the "Harima no Kuni Fudoki" (Harima Province Fudoki), indicating its existence before the 8th century. However, Ishii Shrine is not listed in the "Engishiki Jinmyocho" (List of Shrines in the Engishiki) or national historical records; its first documented appearance is in the "Harima Kokunai Jinmyocho" (List of Shrines in Harima Province) as "Ishii Oogami". Beyond the Stone Treasure Hall, Ishii Shrine offers other attractions. The grounds feature the main hall located near the Stone Treasure Hall, as well as a kagura hall (hall for sacred music and dance) and a haiden (prayer hall), each steeped in history. The surrounding area boasts a rich natural environment. Ishii Shrine is a power spot surrounded by history and nature. Be sure to visit and experience the power of the Stone Treasure Hall for yourself.
