Gassan Shrine is a shrine located at the summit of Mount Gassan in Yamagata Prefecture, and is one of the Dewa Sanzan. Mount Gassan has been venerated as a sacred mountain since ancient times, and Tsukiyomi-no-Mikoto (the moon god) is enshrined at its peak. Access to Gassan Shrine is by bus or car. Buses depart from Tsuruoka Station on the JR Uetsu Main Line and take approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes on the Shonai Kotsu bus bound for "Gassan", getting off at Gassan Shrine. By car, it takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Tsuruoka Station on the JR Uetsu Main Line. Parking is available at the 8th and 9th stations of Gassan Shrine.
