Gassan Shrine is a shrine located at the summit of Mount Gassan in Yamagata Prefecture, and is one of the Dewa Sanzan. Climbing Mount Gassan is subject to weather conditions, so please plan your climb in advance and prioritize safety. While the trails are maintained, some sections can be challenging, so caution is advised. Be sure to prepare your climbing gear thoroughly. Rain gear and warm clothing are essential. Access to Gassan Shrine is by bus or car. Buses depart from Tsuruoka Station on the JR Uetsu Main Line and take approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes on the Shonai Kotsu bus bound for "Gassan", getting off at Gassan Shrine. By car, it takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes from Tsuruoka Station on the JR Uetsu Main Line. Parking is available at the 8th and 9th stations of Gassan Shrine. Gassan Shrine is located in a naturally abundant area, so please observe proper etiquette and pack out all your trash. Refrain from collecting plants or animals, or causing any damage.
