A single cherry blossom standing tall amidst lingering snow, with the breathtaking Iide mountain range as its backdrop—a truly awe-inspiring sight.
Oguchimachi is located at the southernmost tip of Yamagata Prefecture, a naturally abundant area nestled within the majestic mountain ranges of the Asahi and Iide mountains, part of the Bandai-Asahi National Park. Oguchimachi is known for its rich natural beauty, history, and warm-hearted people. This single cherry blossom tree is situated near the summit of the pass leading from Kogatamagawa—a district nestled in the heart of the Iide mountain range—to Tarukuchi, in the most mountainous part of Oguchimachi. Near an observation deck at a similar elevation to the 2000m Iide mountain range, the Tarukuchi Pass's single cherry blossom blooms while snow still heavily covers the ground. It's an Oyama-zakura cherry tree, a variety common in the Tohoku region, and blooms from late April to early May. From the observation deck, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the Iide mountain range. The cherry blossom, standing tall amidst lingering snow against the backdrop of the mountains, is a true masterpiece of nature. Due to its high altitude, the cherry blossom blooms later than those in the lowlands, with late April to early May being the peak viewing season. Often, snow still remains in the area, further enhancing the beauty of the single cherry blossom. To visit this single cherry blossom, please contact the Oguchimachi Tourism Association.
