A simple hot spring high in radon content, known as the "Beauty Spring."
Nibukawa Onsen, located in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, is a historic hot spring area known as one of Iyo's Three Hot Springs, alongside Dogo Onsen and Honya Onsen. Said to have existed since the Heian period, it later flourished as a spa town for the Imabari clan. While it declined in the Meiji era due to poor transportation, the construction of roads in 1952 led to the development of a modern onsen town. The charm of Nibukawa Onsen lies in its simple hot spring, known as the "Beauty Spring," with its high radon content. The source temperature is a low 22℃, resulting in a smooth texture that's said to be highly effective for beautifying the skin. The surrounding area features the naturally beautiful Nibukawa Valley, with well-maintained walking paths, a forest museum, and an onsen stand. The valley offers stunning natural beauty throughout the year, with autumn foliage painting the valley in breathtaking shades of red and gold. Nibukawa Onsen boasts excellent day-trip onsen facilities, along with numerous Ryokans and restaurants. It's a place where you can enjoy the natural beauty and onsen by strolling through the town, walking the valley paths, and relaxing in the hot springs. Access is relatively convenient. It's approximately a 30-minute ride by Setouchi Bus from Imabari Station on the Yosan Line, making it easily accessible even without a car. When visiting Ehime Prefecture, be sure to stop by Nibukawa Onsen.
