A museum in Imabari, a renowned towel-producing region, where you can experience the history and culture of towels.
Towel Museum ICHIHIRO is a museum in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, dedicated to the world of towels. Established on April 29, 2000, by Ichiiro Co., Ltd., a local towel manufacturer, it was initially known as Towel Museum ASAKURA. Conceived as a fusion of Asakura's natural beauty and towel art, offering a relaxing space, the five-story building boasts 10,000 tsubo (approximately 33,000 square meters) of floor space, complemented by a 10,000-tsubo European garden. The museum exhibits towel art created using towels themselves, and showcases the spinning process from cotton to yarn and the weaving process using actual machinery. In addition to the largest towel sales area in western Japan, a Shikoku Seto Inland Sea product corner, and a museum cafe offering Fauchon tea, there's also the "Wangfujing," a restaurant serving newly created Chinese cuisine. On the third floor, the towel workshop allows you to have embroidery added to purchased towels. The approximately 10,000-tsubo European Garden features diverse plants that bloom throughout the year, providing a tranquil natural setting. This garden also hosts one wedding ceremony per day, with receptions held at the Wangfujing restaurant. In 2005, when Asakura Village, Ehime Prefecture, merged with Imabari City, the facility's name changed to Towel Museum ICHIHIRO. Towel Museum ICHIHIRO not only exhibits the towel manufacturing process, towel art, and towel products, but also holds workshops and events using towels. It's a museum that can be enjoyed by towel enthusiasts and those who are simply curious alike. Be sure to visit!
