Akei Valley is a valley located in Niyodogawa-cho, Kochi District, Kochi Prefecture, adjacent to the Ishizuchi Quasi-National Park. Surrounded by 1,287 hectares of virgin forest, this valley is truly a hidden gem.
The biggest attraction of Akei Valley is undoubtedly the crystal-clear emerald green water known as "Niyodo Blue." The sunlight reflects on the water, making it sparkle like a jewel; its beauty is beyond words.
Various waterfalls, unique rock formations, and boulders are scattered throughout the valley. Well-maintained walking paths allow for enjoyable hiking. "Mikaeri-no-taki" (Looking Back Falls) and "Hiryu-no-taki" (Flying Dragon Falls) are particularly famous.
"Mikaeri-no-taki" is a magnificent approximately 30-meter-high waterfall that will leave you awestruck. "Hiryu-no-taki," approximately 10 meters high, has water gushing from the pool at the bottom, resembling a dragon soaring through the sky—hence its name.
The valley also boasts many other highlights such as "Senjin-kyo" (Thousand-仞 Gorge) and "Suisho-buchi" (Crystal Pond). "Senjin-kyo" is a valley with steep cliffs, offering a breathtaking landscape like a painting. "Suisho-buchi" is a beautiful pond fed by crystal-clear water, with a breathtaking reflection of trees and sky on its surface.
Akei Valley shows different charms in spring and autumn. In spring, the valley is painted in bright green with fresh buds covering the trees. In autumn, the mountain slopes are colored in red and yellow by the autumn leaves, creating a breathtakingly beautiful scenery.
