Mitsuishiyama, located in Shizukuishi-cho, Iwate Prefecture, is a 1,466m peak situated on the Ura-Iwate mountain range trail extending from Mount Iwate. Selected as one of the Tohoku 100 Famous Mountains, its summit is rocky, culminating in a large, imposing rock formation. A cairn marks the summit, providing breathtaking 360-degree views encompassing the majestic peaks of Hachimantai, Akita Komagatake, and Mount Iwate itself. You can even see the steam rising from the cooling tower of the Matsukawa Geothermal Power Plant in the southwest foothills – Japan's first commercially operating geothermal power plant. Multiple trails lead to the summit, including those from Kyuka Mura Amari Onsen, Matsukawa Onsen, and Taki-no-ue Onsen. It's also connected to the Iwate-yama mountain range trail, and many hikers utilize the lifts at the Amari Onsen Ski Resort for access.
