At that time, hot springs gushed forth from Mount Yuga mine, drawing many visitors for therapeutic bathing. However, in 1265 (Bun'ei 2), the springs at Mount Yuga mine dried up, and it is said that the springs then emerged in the Hida Riverbed where the current onsen town is located. This event is recounted in the local legend of the white heron.
