Nikko Futarasan Shrine is located in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, and is one of the shrines that make up the World Heritage site "Nikko Shrines and Temples." It enshrines Mount Nantai (Futarasan) as its principal deity. Marking the beginning of Nikkōzan faith, established over 1200 years ago by Shōdō Shōnin, it has long been revered as the leading shrine of Shimotsuke Province and has garnered deep faith. The principal deity is Ōnamuchi-no-mikoto, a god of good fortune and matchmaking, making the shrine currently popular for its blessings in this area. Within the grounds stands a magnificent torii gate, 9.7 meters high and 13.8 meters wide, crafted from 400-year-old keyaki (Zelkova serrata) wood from Tochigi Prefecture. Its grandeur is truly awe-inspiring. The beautiful vermillion "Shin-kyo" (Sacred Bridge), a wooden structure adorning the entrance to Nikkōzan, is also a structure of Futarasan Shrine. Serving as the gateway to the World Heritage site "Nikko Shrines and Temples," this bridge has long been a focal point of faith for the people. A vermillion-lacquered gate appears after crossing Shin-kyo. Beyond the gate lies the main hall, and behind that lies a serene sacred garden.
