Overview

Fujinori Shrine, located in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto, is a famous shrine dedicated to victory and horses. According to legend, Empress Jingu prayed for victory here before the conquest of Three Kingdoms of Korea, establishing its reputation as a shrine associated with winning. Its association with sacred horses further solidifies its fame. The shrine grounds feature a wisteria trellis with trees over 400 years old. From late May to early June, the wisteria blooms, filling the air with a sweet fragrance. Passing under the arched trellis creates a truly magical atmosphere. In early summer, the vibrant hydrangea garden also comes into full bloom, offering a different kind of beauty. Every June, the Fujinori Festival takes place, attracting many worshippers with its portable shrine processions and mounted archery performances (Yabusame). The energetic portable shrine procession winds through the town, while the mounted archery evokes images of ancient battles. Fujinori Shrine is brimming with attractions, including historical shrine buildings, beautiful scenery that changes with the seasons, and traditional festivals. We highly recommend a visit.
