Shoboji Temple

Overview

Shoboji Temple is a Shingon sect temple of the Toji school located in Ooharano, Nishikyo-ku, Kyoto. Traditionally, it's said to have been founded during the Tempyo-shoho era, beginning when Chii Daidoku, a high-ranking disciple of Ganjin, the founder of Todaiji Temple in Nara, secluded himself there. The temple grounds include a main hall, a stone garden featuring birds and animals, a Hojo hall, a library, a Kasuga Fudo hall, a Kasuga Inari shrine, and a Henjo pagoda. In spring, the plum garden is in full bloom, filling the air with a sweet fragrance and creating a serene landscape. Autumn brings vibrant foliage, painting the grounds in reds and yellows.
