The magnificent ruins of Nagayo Castle, built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi for his invasion of Korea. Experience the sheer scale of the castle!
Nagayo Castle is the ruin of a castle built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi during his invasion of Korea. From 1592 (Tenpo 10) to 1598 (Keicho 3), Hideyoshi launched his campaign onto the Korean Peninsula. Nagayo Castle served as the massive base for this invasion. The current historical park is a partial reconstruction of the original castle, showcasing remnants that evoke its former grandeur. Within the park are the remains of the encampment where Hideyoshi is said to have stayed, and remnants of the castle town offering glimpses into daily life at that time. Nagayo Castle Ruins offer a valuable opportunity to learn about the history of the Korean invasion, and to catch a glimpse of Japanese culture and daily life during that period. The adjacent Saga Prefectural Nagayo Castle Museum houses documents and exhibits related to the invasion, including weapons, armor, and daily necessities used during the war. It also provides detailed explanations of the circumstances leading to the invasion, the political situation at the time, and Hideyoshi's strategies. Be sure to visit the museum during your visit to Nagayo Castle Ruins.
