Overview

Fukuoka Castle Ruins are the remains of a castle built in 1603 by Kuroda Nagamasa, located in the center of Fukuoka City. Kuroda Nagamasa, a retainer of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, became the feudal lord of Fukuoka after the Battle of Sekigahara. He then constructed Fukuoka Castle. The castle was known for its robust structure, a testament to Kuroda Nagamasa's strategic thinking and the advanced construction techniques of the time. Some of the original stone walls and turrets remain at Fukuoka Castle Ruins, allowing visitors to imagine the castle's former grandeur. The Honmaru (main keep) site, located at the heart of the ruins, gives a strong sense of the castle's immense scale. The ruins are also surrounded by lush green parks, such as Maizuru Park and Ohori Park, making it an ideal place for a stroll.
