Overview

Jōi Ichigō Yōtai-gō Historical Park features an air raid shelter built in 1945 (Shōwa 20), towards the end of the Pacific War, to protect residents from American air raids. Many people lived in this area at the time, living in fear of air attacks. This shelter was built with desperate hope to protect their lives. The Jōi Ichigō Yōtai-gō is approximately 50 meters long, 5 meters wide, and 4 meters high, constructed of concrete. Inside, remaining structures offer a glimpse into the lives of those who sought refuge there, allowing visitors to imagine the conditions they faced. The park includes facilities for viewing the shelter's interior and a museum displaying war-related materials. The museum features photographs, videos, and artifacts from the era, providing an opportunity to learn about the horrors of war and appreciate the value of peace. Well-maintained walking paths allow visitors to enjoy the natural surroundings. The park offers beautiful scenery throughout the year, with cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in fall. Jōi Ichigō Yōtai-gō Historical Park is a precious place to reflect on the horrors of war and contemplate peace. Visit to learn about this history and reaffirm the importance of peace.
