Taisanji Temple is a temple of the Shingon sect's Chizan school located in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture. It is the 52nd temple on the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage. Its mountain name is Ryūunzan, and its honorary title is Gojiin. The principal deity is the Eleven-headed Kannon Bodhisattva. Traditionally said to have been founded in 725, Taisanji is known as a mountain temple where you can particularly feel the history and nature of the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage. From the parking lot to the main hall, there are 1015 stone steps. As you ascend, you can enjoy the magnificent views and the serene atmosphere. The roof tiles are said to date back to the Kamakura period and are preserved as valuable historical materials.
