Ichinomiya Asama Jinja Shrine, located in Fuefuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture, is an ancient shrine that has long been the object of people's faith. As the Ichinomiya of Kai Province, it boasts a long history and tradition. The enshrined deity is Konohanasakuya-hime-no-mikoto (literally, "Princess who makes blossoms bloom"), a goddess associated with Mount Fuji. She is revered as the deity embodying Mount Fuji, and the shrine has been a center of Mount Fuji worship since ancient times. According to shrine traditions, it was founded at the foot of a sacred mountain in January of the 8th year of Emperor Suinin's reign, and later moved to its present location in 865 (during the Jogan era). Ichinomiya Asama Jinja Shrine is a place enveloped in tranquil atmosphere, surrounded by history and nature. Towering cedar trees over 1200 years old stand tall, and the lush greenery of the grounds soothes the hearts of visitors. There are many historical structures and plants, including the main hall built in 1672 (during the Kanbun era), and the Meoto-ume (husband and wife plum trees), designated as a Yamanashi Prefectural Natural Monument.
