A historic shrine revered as Mikawa-no-kuni Ichinomiya. Enjoy a peaceful and tranquil visit.
Togajinja Shrine, located in Toyokawa City, Aichi Prefecture, is designated as a Shikinaisha (shrine listed in the Engishiki) and Mikawa-no-kuni Ichinomiya. Highly revered as the guardian deity of the Tokai region, it has long been a center of faith for the people. According to the shrine's tradition, during the Taihō era (701-704), Kusakadonokinobu was dispatched as an imperial envoy to quell Emperor Monmu's illness. He welcomed the deity from Honmōzan (Honmiyasan) and established a branch shrine in the village. The shrine grounds boast numerous historical structures and giant trees, including the "West Approach Stone Torii Gate," designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, and a 700-year-old zelkova tree. You can also enjoy the beautiful seasonal scenery, with cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in the fall. Togajinja Shrine offers a tranquil atmosphere for a peaceful visit, promoting both physical and mental rejuvenation. Why not spend some time surrounded by history and natural beauty, finding solace and peace? Various festivals are held throughout the year at Togajinja Shrine. Notably, the "Tayū-sai" festival on January 3rd is a lively celebration of the harvest, featuring rituals and performances. Togajinja Shrine is a place of healing, surrounded by history and nature.
