The 'Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER' first emerged in 1954 as Japan's pioneering integrated broadcast tower. Constructed during the post-war reconstruction era, it was conceived as a beacon of hope for Nagoya, designed by Tachu Naito, often referred to as the 'Tower Doctor.' Its ingenious 'Daruma-style structure' — where four legs, embedded merely 6 meters deep, are connected by reinforced concrete arches to lower the center of gravity — was a visionary engineering feat, prepared for future subway construction beneath. In 2022, it achieved the distinction of being Japan's first TV tower to be designated a National Important Cultural Property, an acknowledgment of its profound historical significance. A major renovation and seismic retrofitting project from 2019 saw the opening of 'THE TOWER HOTEL NAGOYA' within its premises. The hotel's guest rooms and restaurants tastefully incorporate local traditional crafts like Arimatsu Shibori and Nagoya Yuzen, effectively promoting the region's cultural heritage. Having successfully navigated challenges regarding its future after the cessation of analog broadcasting, the tower now offers a rich array of experiences, including stunning panoramic views from its observation deck, 360-degree projection mapping, a VR theater, various shops, cafes, and restaurants. A particular highlight is the LED lighting display, 'Kirameki' (Sparkle), which bathes Nagoya's night sky in a beautiful glow with lights flowing every 0 and 30 minutes past the hour, enchanting countless visitors. This iconic tower, bridging Nagoya's past and its vibrant future, promises an unforgettable and inspiring experience for all who visit.
