Gifu Castle is a mountain castle located in Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture, built on the summit of Mount Kinka, 329 meters above sea level. Its history stretches back to 1532 during the Muromachi period, when it was constructed by Saito Dosan. Later, Oda Nobunaga took control of Gifu Castle, making it a crucial base in his quest for nationwide unification. Gifu Castle served not only as a pivotal point in Nobunaga's unification efforts but also played a role in various historical events throughout the years. Today, Gifu Castle, with its reconstructed keep, is a popular tourist destination. From the keep, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of Gifu City, the Nagara River, and the Nōbi Plain. The sunset view is particularly stunning, known for its beauty as the sun dips behind Mount Kinka. At night, the city lights of Gifu create a magical and enchanting atmosphere. - Access to the castle keep is via ropeway or on foot. The ropeway station is about a 15-minute walk from Gifu Park. From the ropeway station, it's about a 10-minute walk to the castle keep.
