Overview
The Former Residence Site of the Takada Family, former retainers of the Kaga Clan, is the site of the residence of the Takada family, mid-ranking samurai who served the Kaga Domain. It's a precious remaining example of a Heishi (common samurai) residence among the samurai districts of the Kaga Domain.
Today, the former long gate, garden, and servant's quarters remain, offering a peek into the lives of samurai of that era.
In particular, the chisen kaiyu-shiki garden (a pond-style strolling garden), a representative style of Edo-period garden design, offers a tranquil and beautiful landscape that soothes the soul.
Take a stroll around the pond and imagine the lives and culture of the samurai of that time.
You can also visit the servant's quarters and stables on the grounds.
The servant's quarters feature exhibits showcasing daily life at the time.
The stables display information about horse care and horse equipment.
Through these exhibits, you can gain a deeper understanding of the lives of samurai during this period.
The grounds are free to explore, so please stop by during your visit to Kanazawa.
The Nagamachi Samurai District, also lined with samurai residences, is within walking distance.
This area is a must-see for history buffs.
