The Old Mojiko Customs Office was built in 1912 (Meiji 45) as the Mojiko Customs office. Designed under the guidance of the architectural master, Raiō Tsumaki, it's a beautiful red-brick building incorporating Renaissance architectural elements. The original features, including the exterior red bricks and granite, and the magnificent chandelier actually used in the VIP room, remain, offering a tangible connection to the past. The first floor features an exhibition corner introducing the work of the customs office and smuggling methods, allowing visitors to learn about customs operations of the time. There's also a cafe where you can relax while enjoying views of the Kanmon Strait. The third floor boasts an observation deck offering a panoramic view of ships traversing the Kanmon Strait and the raising bridge. It's a place where you can appreciate the magnificent scenery of the Kanmon Strait and feel a sense of history. Located in the heart of the Mojiko Retro district, the Old Mojiko Customs Office is surrounded by other historical buildings, such as JR Mojiko Station and the former Osaka Merchant Marine building. Why not explore these buildings and delve into the history and culture of Mojiko? The Old Mojiko Customs Office is an iconic landmark of the Mojiko Retro district and a popular spot for many tourists.
