The Old Daijyoin Garden was renovated in the mid-15th century by Zenami, a master garden designer favored by the eighth Shogun of the Muromachi shogunate, Ashikaga Yoshimasa, and his son. They were brought from Kyoto for this project. Designated a Place of Scenic Beauty by the nation, a portion of it remains south of the Nara Hotel. The garden's tranquil atmosphere and the artistry of the Muromachi period are still palpable today. The "Meisho Daijyoin Garden Cultural Museum," showcasing a reconstruction model and related materials of the former Daijyoin Temple, is also located on the grounds. This garden is a precious cultural heritage that vividly reflects the aristocratic culture of the Muromachi period. Feel the breath of history in the serene atmosphere.
