A beautifully restored ancient garden within the Heijokyu Palace ruins. Once a place where imperial family members held banquets and ceremonies.
Toin Garden is an ancient garden restored within the Heijokyu Palace ruins in Nara City, Nara Prefecture. Located in the eastern extension of the Heijokyu Palace site, once known as "Higashi no Miya" (Eastern Palace) or "Toin" (Eastern Garden), it is believed to have served as a reception hall for imperial family members for banquets and ceremonies, centered around an L-shaped pond. The garden ruins were discovered in 1967, and after years of research, it was restored in 1998. In 2010, it was designated a Special Place of Scenic Beauty, recognizing its exceptional value as an ancient garden. Toin Garden offers a valuable opportunity to experience Japanese history and culture. You can stroll around the pond, relax, and soak in the ancient atmosphere. There is also an exhibition hall where you can learn about the restoration process and history of the garden. When visiting Heijokyu Palace ruins, be sure to visit Toin Garden.
