Ryusōgatake Falls, located in Ikeda-cho, Imadate-gun, Fukui Prefecture, is the only waterfall in Fukui Prefecture to be selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls. Its majestic 60-meter drop, with water gently cascading down the rocky surface, captivates all who visit. The beauty of the spring greenery, the refreshing summer air, and the stunning autumn foliage make it a captivating destination year-round. The name Ryusōgatake is said to originate from Ryusōbō, a Buddhist monk who once lived nearby. There's also a legend of a dragon ascending to heaven here, highlighting its long history and connection to the local community. The typical route to Ryusōgatake Falls is from Fukui Interchange via National Route 158, Prefectural Route 2, National Route 476, and Prefectural Route 34. However, be aware that due to dam construction in Ikeda-cho, a section of the road is currently a temporary route. Parking is available about 120 meters before the falls, and it's a 3-minute walk from there to the falls. The charm of Ryusōgatake Falls lies in its magnificent scale and the lush surrounding nature. You can descend to the base of the falls, immersing yourself in the refreshing negative ions. Downstream, you'll find a collection of potholes, offering another stunning view of water and trees. Access
Access is via National Route 158, Prefectural Route 2, National Route 476, and Prefectural Route 34 from Fukui IC. However, due to dam construction in Ikeda-cho, you'll need to use a temporary road. Look for signs indicating Ryusōgatake Falls. There's a parking lot approximately 120 meters before the falls with space for about 12 cars. It's a 3-minute walk from there to Ryusōgatake Falls. A second parking lot is about 200 meters further on, with space for around 15 cars. Restrooms are located at the second parking lot, or about 1km further up the road on the right at Haieri no Sato Park. These are Japanese-style flush toilets. Show route
